About Us

Instructors
Joshua Morton (Seattle)
Susan Guttzeit (Bellingham)

Our instructors are available to present at events and teach classes and events.  They also provide private teaching sessions for two students and customized stretching routines for a person based on their individual needs.  Our instructors are in different locations in the Northwest.  Assistance is particularly beneficial after injuries, for chronic pain, disease and in post-operative conditions.  If muscles are too weak to move the joints, assisted stretching helps an individual achieve consistent results.

Joshua Morton

Joshua
Joshua Morton is a 1994 graduate of Seattle Massage School, now known as Ashmead.  Since beginning his practice Joshua has worked in the area of soft tissue rehabilitation and injury prevention.  In 2003 Joshua became familiar with Active Isolated Stretching (AIS).  He began to employ this technique with excellent results and before long devoted all of his practice to advancing his knowledge of and ability to use AIS.

In 2003 Joshua went to Sarasota FL to work with Aaron Mattes; the creator and developer of AIS, for the first time.  Since then Joshua has accumulated over 2400 hours working one on one with Aaron Mattes.  The time was spent learning advanced methods of soft tissue rehabilitation.  This education focused not only on stretching but also strengthening.  That experience has given Joshua the knowledge required to address difficult neurological, orthopedic and muscular problems such as scoliosis, neuropathy, joint replacements, muscle spasm, asthma, multiple sclerosis, impingement syndromes and many other diseases that were previously beyond his scope of understanding and abilities to help.

Joshua’s devotion to and expertise with AIS places him among Aaron’s top therapists and teachers nationwide. Joshua’s hard work has earned him accolades from Aaron for having the high level of ability to teach and deliver Active Isolated Stretching and Strengthening.  Joshua’s skill as a teacher has created the opportunity for him to teach throughout the states and internationally.

When Joshua is not hard at work stretching patients he has many hobbies he enjoys.  He has a strong love of music.  He listens to an eclectic range of music, almost everything!  Joshua has been playing the bass guitar since he was 17 years old.  He has even played live shows in a band!  A couple of years ago he began to play percussion and now he participates in drumming groups regularly.

Joshua also has a strong love of nature.  If he has a day or part of a day to himself you will likely find him heading into the mountains for a day hike.  Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow will keep Joshua from the trail.  He enjoys the challenge of finding the most difficult path and slugging out to the top.

Joshua looooooves food!  Not only has he cooked in various Seattle restaurants before beginning his career as a therapist but he has continued to hone his skills for the gourmet.  He enjoys hosting parties where he gets to cook for and/or with his friends.  Don’t forget to match the right beer or wine to the food!  He enjoys learning about the benefits of the food he is eating.  Eating with intelligence is the first line of offense to achieving health!

Joshua is a provider of CE hours through NCBTMB (#451194-09), BOC (#P3445) and Washington State.

Susan Guttzeit

SusanG
Susan received her massage practitioner license in1996 upon graduation from the Pacific Center for Bodywork and Awareness on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai.  During her massage training on Kauai, she received additional instruction in structurally integrative techniques akin to Rolfing.  A pivotal influence in her approach occurred in 2002 after attending a workshop in Muscle Release Technique with Michael Young where she was introduced to Active Isolated Stretching.  In 2004 she intensified her study of Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) and since then has made AIS – both stretching and strengthening systems – the focal point of her work.  To deepen her knowledge in this field, she interned in 2005 at Aaron Mattes’ clinic in Sarasota and attended an advanced Active Isolated Stretching & Strengthening seminar with Aaron Mattes in 2008.  Since 2004 Susan has co-taught and assisted at numerous AIS seminars nationwide.

Susan has found Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) to be particularly beneficial and rehabilitative for people suffering from the effects of aging or injury.  In the fitness field she teaches stretching and strengthening classes that appeal particularly to athletes with injuries and the older population.  Teaching clients and other health care and fitness professionals how to stretch properly is an important aspect of her work.

Susan enjoys travel and learning about other cultures and spent many years living in Germany.  Gentle hikes, casual bike rides, and beach walks are some of her favorite outdoor activities here in the Northwest.  She enjoys cooking tasteful and healthy meals, reading, watching good movies, and playing Afro-Cuban rhythms on drums.

Susan is a provider of CE hours through NCBTMB (#451194-09), BOC (#P3445) and Washington State.
